Neither can remember a time in their lives when they were not surrounded by fabric and were not engaged in some form of handwork, be it dressmaking or embroidery. Therefor when South African women started doing patchwork during the 70’s it seemed natural for them to become involved in the quilting process.
They started teaching quilting in 1978 and over the years have conducted basic, intermediate and advanced courses in piecing, appliqué, quilting and embroidery. They have taught courses at many of the South African National Quilt Festivals starting in 1988.
They have presented a lecture/slideshow of African quilts that has been most enthusiastically received by both quilters and non-quilters at International Congresses held in South Africa and abroad.
