Since its conception, the South African Quilters’ Guild Travelling Exhibition aims to raise awareness for the art of quiltmaking by showcasing the work of its members.
The Travelling Exhibition quilts travel the country for up to 2 years to guilds and groups, exhibition spaces and galleries to expose quilting to other artists and the general public.
ALL members of the SAQG were invited to participate in the next SAQG Travelling Exhibition by making a quilt inspired by the theme ‘A Stitch in Time’. We welcomed traditional, modern and art quilts!
According to poemanalysis.com A stitch in time saves nine is an English proverb which describes the benefits of working hard now in order to save time later. It first appeared in print as an established proverb in 1732.
The conditions were that the entry must be a quilt, consists of 3 layers and made primarily by cloth. Any technique or construction method may have been used. The final collection consists of 26 quilts, measuring 40cm wide x 55cm long.
“A Stitch in Time” will travel to venues all over South Africa from May 2023 to July 2024, to end in Pietermaritzburg as a satellite exhibition of the “Voices in Cloth” National Quilt Festival.
The travelling schedule for 2024 is as follows:
